By optimizing the seal’s shape and the plastic to rubber proportions, engineers have achieved a high-performance balance between sealing requirements, insertion force, ease of installation, and in-niche self-retaining properties. The seal has a tail designed to help compensate for small variations in the socket shape, helping achieve an acceptable fit in a broader range of dimensional scenarios.
